Phew! I’m back guys! I know I know, since knocking out debt I haven’t shared something personal in a while! What’s the next step now that American Debt Project has paid down what they owe to zero? Well, to get, or feel rich of course!
There are some things that always seem slightly out of reach and I often confuse the ability to have those things as signs of having “made it”. It’s a weird habit I have, but it gives me something to daydream about. Maybe it’s just a symbol, and maybe a few of these are things I could have right now, but I am not about to get them, because I know that it’s just a symbol. These are just a few of those things that I am convinced having or doing would somehow catapult me into a new socioeconomic strata. Get ready for a lot of ridiculous.
1. An outdoor cabana bed
First of all, you have to have space to have an outdoor cabana bed. And then, the actual bed. You know those white beds with a basic four post stand and breezy white curtains you can pull across for some indoor/outdoor privacy? You know you’re doing something right when you have an outdoor cabana bed and the time to actually lounge around in it.
2. A water feature
Again, the actual space to have a water feature outside your house? That’s huge! I don’t care if it’s a fountain, a little koi pond, a bridge you can walk across that goes over an artificial river. An outdoor water feature is a homeowner’s status symbol.
3. Affording a nanny
Childcare seems exorbitantly expensive and I don’t even have kids. I would like to know that when we have kids, we have the option of having a nanny so we can both work, even part-time.
4. Banking a paycheck
This is the ultimate luxury, right? I have yet to receive my regular biweekly paycheck and bank the entire thing into savings or an investment account. It’s been close, but there has always been some payment to take care of or something I “need” to buy (I recently bought a bookcase I had been wanting to buy for over a year, and that did feel pretty awesome.) There were several times over the past year that I put an entire paycheck towards debt repayment, so now I just need to continue that same focus and put an entire paycheck in the bank. Now that would make me feel rich, if just for a week or two.
What’s one status symbol that you think screams “I’ve made it”?
