Short-Term Car Insurance – When You Might Need It In A Pinch

December 11, 2013 by Justin Weinger

should I buy a used or new car? What if you’re traveling abroad? Or need really short-term, and I mean short, car insurance? Has an uninsured friend who’s in a pinch ever asked to borrow your car but you had to turn them down?

Well, I didn’t know this truly existed, but there’s a solution for that: temporary insurance. Whether it’s for one day, seven days, or 30, you can get insured for just this type of situation.

Here’s some situations where you might need temporary, immediate car insurance:

Your car is at the repair shop

Let’s say your car is at the autobody shop because you got into a fender-bender. You’re likely to need a rental car, and if you purchased insurance that’s not comprehensive enough to include covering you driving a rental car you may need some quick, short-term car insurance.

You live in a city and don’t need a car

Hey, I used to travel to NYC frequently for work and many of the friends I knew there didn’t even bother owning a car, let alone retain car insurance. I always wondered what they’d do if they borrowed a car or suddenly needed a rental. Well, they can just get temporary insurance!

Going out of the country

Driving to Canada? Tijuana? Trekking through Europe? If you want to take an international trip, your regular car insurance may not cover you. Make sure to find out. If they do not, search online for how to get covered internationally for your trip. You can get car insurance for even a week to stay covered. Going to Europe? Give temporary insurance from Insure 4 A Day a spin.

For that classic vehicle you have stored

If you store your vehicle to keep registration costs down (and keep it in great condition) you probably have minimal insurance on it. What happens if you suddenly get the itch to drive your classic car? You can simply grab insurance for a week or even a month to protect yourself. This is a great way to save money throughout the year rather than paying for 12 months of car insurance.
